Friday was full of work all day (if you can call it that) and i had so much to look forward to that evening! From haircut to karate graduation, running to maple Grove to drop off my teen then over to Edina to have some din-din. That's just the beginning...!
Kyle graduated form blue belt to advanced blue belt...not bad! We went to his ceremony Friday night (was about an hour long or so). he's super excited to have moved up a notch...I don't blame him. So, good job my little man on your accomplishment.
Right before graduation I went and got a haircut. Steve the barber is very good at remembering what i have going on...whether it be my nagging injuries, kids stuff with sports and recreation, or anything else we have talked about in the previous haircutting sessions. Kind of like my therapy, accept Steve doesn't tell me that I'm all messed up...hahaha.
After Kyles dealio Hunter and I headed to maple Grove to meet with her Mom. we stopped quickly into marshalls and I got a new shirt for the show later in the evening...she helped me find the perfect one and was very cool about expressing how it looked on me. She's funny like that, and I appreciate it.
Now onto Edina where Izzie and I were going to meet with our friends Ty and Jess for a little din-din and some good convo. Worked out real nice. I had never actually stopped and had dinner at 50th and France before, so this was kind of a treat for me. I still don't entirely get what all the fuss is about, but I'm not complaining either. Edina Grille...simple as that. Good food, fair price in a anice area of town and a cafe/diner feel. I like it and it was good as well. So, we had some great conversation, some good laughs and a great deal of good food. I tried a wonderful new beer selection form Colorado called Lefthand 'Deepcover' brown ale! That's some goodness in a glass. VERY Nutty (say that with a Scottish accent). So thanks to Ty and Jess for the good times.
Now Izzie and I are off to lakeville to enjoy ROCKFIST! This is (or used to be) Izzie's favorite band for 80's cover music, so we were pumped to be heading south for an evening of fun and meeting a few people that I was really looking forward to seeing. On our way we met up with old pal Mikey V. and then caravaned to the bar. side note...Mikey V. cracks me up!
Pull into the lot and its pretty busy and you can hear the music playing...can you say PUMPED UP?! I can so say it with me, actually don't do that at all. We head in get carded (no cover) and look over at the band and Izzie's jaw drops!!! THIS is not the same band, this is Rockfist but minus one key player. The lead singer is different. this guy is lightly balding has white boy gerry curls and a beer belly, rockin the chain wallet (can't fault him for that really) and sings with his hands in his pocket...well one hand in his pocket cause the other hand is holding the mich. Geesh...not cool, not even a little. So, Izzie is naturally disappointed, but what can you do. We see Rocky and Brenda in the distance and head over. I introduce one gang to the other and we sit down to sip on some barley pops and reminisce about Duluth and the what nots. Good times in a totally hillbilly like atmosphere, we are in lakeville (which might be like Delaware but worse).
The night winds down, sleep is sounding pretty good about now and we have a long trek home. We decide, after a bit of dancing and singing along, that it is time to head home. Off we go, big day in the morning starting at 8 with Malias first basketball game.
Good things on a Friday night. I enjoyed it thoroughly and exclusively! Thanks to all, hope to do it again sometime...to Rockfist...sorry, you're not invited.

Amazed and confused...
A friend of mine at work, Robbie, lost a close friend yesterday! Another loss to cancer...a 36 year old guy who fought it for over 10 years, 10 years! I can't imagine having cancer let alone fighting such an awful disease for a third of my life. Don't take life for granted, don't disrespect your body, stay close to your family and friends and enjoy what you have without the want for more.
On that note,

Leadville 100: Race Across the Sky
I just recently got into mountain biking...and I'm quite glad I did. Thanks first and foremost to the guys and gals up at the Duluth Trail Festival for getting the juices flowing.
A second showing of the Leadville 100" Race Across the Sky came to town and i wasn't about to miss it this time if I could make it happen I was going to. So, thanks to IZ for helping out with the kiddos for a few hours, and for buying the tix on line. Shout out to cousin John for tagging along and enjoying this flilck with me (thanks for the kick-ass posters too).
The panel interview prior to the movie was keen! Top five finishers of the 100 mile MTB race were be interviewed along withe the man who started this whole thing back in 1996! Can I just preface this with...Lance Armstrong is a god among men, there, I said it.

So the story goes, lance against Weins (6 time Leadville champ)and a whole array of stories from different people from all over the globe. Thsi race brings people together and brings a community together with it. i won't re-tell the story of the movie, but lets just note that Lance wins, wins big by 28 minutes, finishes the race on a flat and kills the course record by a long shot! More importantly, really, were the stories of encouragement, honor, strength, ambition and perseverance. If you have a chance to see the movie, do it!!
We finished off the night looking at old (I mean old) vintage bikes in Johns basement, cahtting about family, kids stuff and biking. It was good to spend time, to have laughs, to chill and be inspired in alot of ways.

Getting to the final day of Duluth Trail Festival 2009
I don't want to take anything away form the experince in sharing it on the blog..so time will tell, I will get to it (hopefully today) and I hope you come back to enjoy it!
It's Hump Day (cliche, I know)
here we are...Veterans Day, Wednesday, Hump Day...whatever you prefer, it's another day.
As I ponder what this year has been, what it has the potential to be, I look back at what could have instantly been a train wreck and am dismounted in the idea that every day I smile, I laugh, I love, and I care and am cared for.
Although at times I feel seperated with the lack of running, cycling, swimming and training...the distance of friends and family alike, and the idea that some things, even the strongest things can still crumble in the midst of chaos or in the most subtle of times...there is peace in understanding, and wisdom in knowing, greatness in loving.
Chew on that for a while...see what ya get!? I'm just thinking it onto this page anyway...maybe for me, but maybe for you too.
So in the wise words of a wise man..."Be better, not bitter!" Give thanks. Through the month and through the year.

A new love of my life...

Its not just the bike that I 'love', its riding it that is much more pleasurable. If you were to ask me at the beginning of this year to take up mountain biking or trail running I would have laughed a bit under my breath. Not because I have anything against those things, I just didn't think it would be so enjoyable as it is. The Duluth Trail Festival changed my mind about these two sports and the people involved in them. It's much different than the road racing/triathlon crowd (and there is nothing wrong with that either)...but the pressure of time goes away with the beauty of every step and pedal stroke. I'm hooked....
Still 24 hours in a day...but they seem shorter....no!?
Dark when I wake up,
Dark when I get home.
Story of our lives here in MN!
but we like it for some reason,
even when we tell ourselves it isn't true.
So, lets re-cap real quick...
cause that s gonna have to be the new style
at least for the new while.
Fall is here, winter is near.
knee requires NO surgery
which is good news for me,
yet Bursitis is on the docket,
so for now I am laying low for the most part.
Mountain biking, halloween
palnning races and staying out of trouble.
All good things for me.
kids are good, school is flowing,
Christmas is coming, maybe too soon.
Colorado was a great time.
I have a new found love for the mountains
the woods and a new respect for anyone
who gets to run in the dense mountain air.
cheers.
no racing coming up til maybe after christmas.
Some winter biking is on the horizon i thinks,
but we'll see what the knee says in return.
Looking forward to soem time up north this month,
planning and scanning for race opportunities and
what not in the Isle of Isle's.
Hope all is well,
back in the saddle, a different kind
and so devine.
Loving likfe and living it well.
take good care my friends.
